We believe every opportunity to address the housing crisis should be brought to the table - including mass timber. PRESS's mass timber housing concept is first conceived as a series of rigorously defined CLT wall, floor, and roof panels that simultaneously provide flexibility in their use on a given project. The prefabrication of large structural elements can decrease on-site labor needs and expedite the project schedule - bringing much needed housing to the market faster.
PRESS's solution to mass timber housing is flexible and adaptable to a client's needs, site conditions, and programmatic requirements. In addition to full CLT solutions, hybrid CLT floors with panelized stick framed walls can provide clients an opportunity to utilize CLT as a market differentiator while maintaining other traditional construction. Increased density in single family zones is a good first step by jurisdictions to address the housing crisis- and we also believe the methodology of building housing must change, including opportunities for off-site fabrication, installation of large scale components, and the consolidation of layered on-site trades into one element: mass timber.
